Bone versus Calcium Supplement

Calcium is essential in a carnivore’s diet. Some dogs and cats respond well to the diets with bone but, some do not. An option is to exclude bone and add a calcium supplement; a human-grade calcium supplement. This offers better assurance that the calcium can be absorbed by the body and benefited from. While it is true that in the wild, carnivores would eat bones, the prey is raw, fresh and alive. The bones are still soft, supple, hydrated and full of nutrients. The meat and bone sources that we choose and have available to feed our dogs and cats are farm animals. The difference being that they are not fresh kill. Through years of breeding we have created certain breeds that do not resemble their wild cousins, such as the tiny Papillon, and has resulted in some breeds that do not effectively break down bone. The same nutritional requirements can be met by supplementing the raw meat diet with Calcium.

Calcium is an important component of a balanced diet and must be included. Here is a link to Calcium supplement.
