Which Vegetables To Use?
Raw vegetables must be finely ground (in a food processor) or lightly steamed and mashed in order for a canine to digest and receive the maximum benefit from the vegetables. Their digestive system is short and not designed to digest vegetable matter. They can however benefit from the enzymes and nutrients.
List of Recommended Raw Vegetables:
Asparagus
Broccoli
Celery
Chard
Collards
Cucumber
Dandelion
Kale
Parsley
Pumpkin (see dry Powdered Pumpkin)
Romaine lettuce
Squash-all types
Zucchini
Vegetables to use sparingly (root vegetables):
Carrots
Sweet potatoes
Yams
Beets
If dog or cat has an illness of any kind, NO root vegetables. Later on when symptoms are gone, try some root vegetables but, monitor their body’s response to them. Cabbage is also OK if your dog can tolerate it without experiencing gas. Monitor their response.
